Step 2: Initial Positioning

Set up the streaming and audio equipment on the announcer’s table, which is on the right side of the scorers’ table. Place the video camera at the top of the stands in its designated broadcast position. Simply set it in place for now; you will return to complete the camera setup after the announcer table is configured. The table will need all items listed below in the Photos section at the bottom of the page.

Step 3: Table Layout & Power

Position the announcer table on the right-hand side of the main scorers’ table. Place the power strip on the left-hand side of your table and plug it into the long power strip located underneath the scorers’ table, ensure the switch is flipped to “RESET”.

CAUTION: CABLE SAFETY

Make sure to use gaffer tape to help you secure any box or cable at any point throughout the setup. Do not allow any cables to hang off the edge of the table toward the court. This is a safety hazard for players and officials.

Step 4: Boxcaster Pro Integration

Unbox the Boxcaster Pro, attach the mini tripod, and place it on the front left of the table. Plug in the power cable that was found in the Boxcaster Pro hard case. Ensure the unit is stable before proceeding to the video and audio connections.

Connect Cables

  • Power – Adapter that comes in the box, plugged into the power strip
  • Video – HDMI cable from the video converter
  • Internet – Black Ethernet cable from storage wheel
  • Sound – Two XLR cables (Left & Right) from the audio mixing board
  • Scoreboard – USB-C cable from the Boxcast Scoreboard assist box

Audio Setup

Follow these steps to configure the sound system for clear announcer audio and ambient gym noise.

Step 5: Place & Power Mixing Board

Place the Audio Mixing Board to the right of the center of the table. This ensures there is room for the play-by-play commentator to have room for paperwork.

Step 6: Mixer to Boxcaster Connection

Connect the Left and Right 3ft XLR cables from the mixing board outputs to the corresponding inputs on the Boxcaster Pro. Once connected, ensure the main faders on the mixer are set to zero to prevent unexpected audio spikes.

Step 7: Monitoring & Headsets

Unbox the Headphone Amplifier and place it to the left of the audio mixing board, on top of the coiled and braided ¼ Inch Jack cable.

Step 8: Ambient Audio (Input 3)

Connect the 25-foot black XLR cable to Input 3 on the mixing board. Carefully route the cable across the table, ensuring it stays well away from the court-side edge.

TIP: CABLE ROUTING

Always route long cables behind the announcers and equipment to prevent tripping hazards during the broadcast.

Step 9: Mic Stand Placement

Extend the microphone stand and position it securely in the bleachers. For optimal sound, point the microphone slightly to the left of center court to capture clear ambient noise without overpowering the announcer audio.

Step 11: Video Signal Routing

Follow these steps to integrate the real-time scoreboard data into your livestream broadcast.

Step 12: Scoreboard Integration

Running Cables

Follow these steps to safely route and secure all necessary cables across the gym floor and into support rooms.

Step 13: Ethernet Routing Preparation

Plug the Black Ethernet Cable into the Ethernet port on the Boxcaster Pro. Run the coil down to the other two long cables by the foot of the table.

Step 14: Grouping & Order

Run the 3 cables across the path behind the table to the edge of the stands.

Step 15: Secure the Path (Taping)

Using gaffer tape, secure the grouped cables along the path directly behind the announcer table. Ensure the run is flat and taut against the floor.

    SAFETY: TRIP HAZARD

Tape down every inch of the cable path where people walk. A loose loop can cause a fall and destroy equipment.

    Step 16: Connect Ambient Microphone

Plug the end of the XLR cable into the microphone on the stand. Ensure the stand is raised by twisting the locking clamp counter-clockwise, raising it, and then locking it. Also, ensure the microphone is pointed slightly left of the center of the basketball court.

    Step 17: Route Under Bleachers

Run the Black Ethernet Cable and the Blue SDI Cable down the length of the bleachers to the north corner of the gym. Tuck the cables under the bleachers. Stop the Blue SDI cable at the corner. Continue the Black Ethernet cable towards the exit doors. (As it will be going to the Bike Room).

Photo: Run Blue SDI cable back to camera along back wall.

Step 19: Connect Ethernet (Bike Room)

Continue the Black Ethernet cable out of the doors and around the corner into the Bike Room. (Unlocked by Coach)

Step 20: Power Run (Right Side)

Drop down the Orange Extension Power Cord from the top corner of the bleachers until you reach the black tape marker on the extension cord. You can then tape that point down.

    Camera Setup

Complete these final steps at the camera position to finalize your broadcast signal and begin operation.

    Operation Instructions

For detailed camera settings, framing, and live broadcast controls, please refer to the primary operation guide below.

    Cleanup

Follow this checklist after the event to ensure all equipment is safely decommissioned and stored for the next broadcast.

    Step 21: Cleanup Checklist

    • Camera Unit: Power off the camera, close the lens cover, and unplug the power adapter. Wrap the adapter neatly.
    • Bring the tripod and camera down to the table.
    • Power off devices on the table that have power switches and unplug the power strip from the scorers’ table.
    • Unplug the Scoreboard Assist from the scoreboard controller and move the scoreboard assist box to the broadcast table. (This gives you time to remove the cables from the bleachers, as the player will start cleaning up the court.)
    • Remove and wrap up the cables.
    • Unplug the components on the table and do your best to relocate them with their respective boxes, keeping their cables with them.
    • Pack the Camera (On the tripod), Black Pelican case, Microphone stand, and the Cables: Orange extension cord (not on wheel), Blue SDI cable on orange storage wheel, Black Ethernet cable on orange storage wheel, back into the Audio Storage closet.
